Our Ingredients

We've said goodbye to liquid plastic; now, say hello to what makes MDERM truly one of a kind. Click the images below!

Moringa

The Moringa tree has been used in traditional medicine for the relief of dry skin. Modern scientific research now confirms its ability to moisturize and calm skin. Additionally, it’s a powerhouse of antioxidants. We use a proprietary extraction method to preserve many of Moringa’s compounds that would otherwise be destroyed by conventional techniques.

Silk

When it comes to our silk ingredient, there’s too much to talk about! First, it provides a safe, biodegradable alternative to the liquid plastics used in the majority of moisturizers. Second, it creates a breathable, protective layer that locks in moisture and provides a defensive barrier against environmental aggressors. Third, it’s an antioxidant. Finally, it leaves your skin with a soft, non-greasy, silky-smooth feel because it’s silk!

The Healthy Skin Barrier

The outermost layer of our skin, the stratum corneum, provides a protective barrier, keeping water in our bodies. This barrier is made up of three types of lipids: ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids.

Dry Skin Barrier Repair

Individuals with dry skin do not have enough of these lipids (ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids). Studies show that when these lipids are applied to dry skin, skin cells absorb them and restore the damaged skin barrier, preventing water loss.

NOTE: You need all three of these lipids to restore the skin barrier.

Ceramides are usually derived from animal sources or synthetic chemicals. Our ceramides are plant-derived (“phtyo-ceramides”).

Most moisturizers contain animal-derived cholesterol, or simply don’t add this necessary ingredient. Our plant-derived cholesterol (phytosterol) contains naturally occurring compounds similar in structure and biological function to cholesterol.

Our fatty acids come from sunflower oil, rich in linoleic acid, the primary fatty acid in the stratum corneum.

Squalane

Squalane is an oil that is almost identical to squalene, a natural product of human oil glands. Once applied, squalane seals moisture into your skin, preventing water loss and making your skin feel nice and smooth. It absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy residue. It is also used as a substitute for petrolatum, a petroleum-based oil used in many moisturizers. Our squalane is derived from sugar cane, the purest form of the oil.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide is a form of Vitamin B3 that provides many benefits to our skin. It increases the production of ceramides, which results in a healthier skin barrier and better skin hydration. It is an antioxidant. It also calms the skin.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba is the plant oil that is most similar to sebum, the product of human oil glands. Jojoba oil softens the skin and acts as an excellent moisturizer. In addition, it calms and relieves dry skin.
